What is Your Dosha?
You have a totally unique constitution, there is nobody else exactly the same. This is determined by the presence of the five elements —ether, air, fire, water, and earth— that are the building blocks of life. The way that those elements combine together forms what Ayurveda calls the doshas.
There are three basic doshas, or body types - vata, pitta and kapha - and understanding which doshas are prominent is key to knowing yourself and how to bring yourself back into balance.
This is a 60 minute assessment and consultation. It can be done via Zoom, over the phone, or FaceTime.
I will ask you a series of structured questions that I can share with you before we chat. These questions will enable us to determine the constitution that you were born with.
We will also establish which doshas are most prominent right now and the very specific things that you can do to restore balance in your life.
You don’t have to have anything wrong with you to benefit from having a an Ayurvedic dosha assessment! The assessment is a powerful tool to help you understand yourself better and to gain a deeper insight into the things that you can do to improve or maintain balance in your life.
An insightful and qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, will cut through the noise and confusion of the jargon to really help you to understand the foundations of Ayurveda and your Ayurvedic constitution, or doshas. You will discover the best place to start making positive changes so that your unwanted habits begin to drop away easily.
In contrast, taking an online dosha test can leave you feeling overwhelmed, unsure and confused by questions that don’t seem to have very clear answers. Some of these dosha quizzes can create more confusion than clarity. Although some people may find them helpful, many people find that they are not very reliable. When I did some of them before I went to see a practitioner, I discovered that I was completely heading in the wrong direction!
Ayurveda is a giant toolkit that offers all kinds of practices that help you prevent illness and maintain health.
Through close attention to creating balance in your diet, lifestyle, emotional life and through the use of herbs and spices, you could see a dramatic improvement in your wellbeing.
Having a dosha assessment is a giant investment in yourself.
I suggest that you clear the day when you have your assessment if you can. Create some space before and afterwards to read through the questions and make notes.
Be in a comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed during the time we are talking. Take notes if you like.
Afterwards, give yourself time to integrate what we’ve talked about. A bit like savasana. All the benefits come together in the stillness at the end.
Many people feel tired afterwards, so give yourself permission to have a nap, go for a gentle walk, take a warm bath or generally just care for yourself.
Enjoy being listened to deeply, and without judgement.
Spending time with a practitioner who listens deeply to your story can also be very healing in itself. It is very powerful to take time to think about and articulate your story and have it reflected back to you. You get the chance to see things from a fresh perspective and often this helps you to find solutions to issues that have been troubling you for a while. Many people say that the assessment alone really helps them to start to move towards balance.
There is no one size fits all.
So although there are only 3 doshas, we all have a unique mix of kapha, pitta and vata and a qualified practitioner will prescribe a unique plan for you. The root cause of your symptoms is unique to you and so are the solutions.
